Exchanging Experiences, Expanding Opportunities

Social Mobility Summit

Thursday, November 17, 2016 - 13:45 to Friday, November 18, 2016 - 13:45

The objective of this conference is to bring together some of the world’s main experts and practitioners on the matter of intergenerational social mobility in order to facilitate an interdisciplinary dialogue which results in a wide agenda for research and policy making.

Established by the Espinosa Rugarcía Foundation (ESRU) in 2005, CEEY is an independent, not-for-profit research centre. Its goal is to carry out high-level analysis and disseminate it among citizens and policy makers to provide them with strategies to increase social mobility among the Mexican population.

Intergenerational social mobility refers to the probability that children achieve a social status different to that of their parents, in terms of educational attainment, occupational status, income, and wealth. Upward social mobility increases with equality of opportunity in the accumulation of human capital, access to quality jobs and social security, and it is thus associated with faster economic growth and lower inequality.
